VRT1 IDENT

Short visual stings that carry the weight of a national brand while remaining flexible, creative, and emotionally impactful.

Approach

We focused strongly on atmosphere, designing each ident to evoke a distinct mood while still feeling part of a unified visual language. To create variety and flexibility, we introduced seasonal and thematic variations — including summer, winter, and even a sports ident. These subtle shifts allow the broadcaster to stay visually fresh throughout the year.

For us, making idents is the absolute dream job. We grew up watching MTV’s iconic stings — short, punchy visuals that helped shape pop culture and inspired a whole generation of motion designers. With that spirit in mind, we approached the VRT 1 idents not just as branding assets, but as micro-moments of storytelling. Carefully crafted, highly detailed, and designed to leave a lasting impression.

MTV’s iconic idents and Ketnet’s playful 90s stings have both shaped the way we think about motion design. While MTV set the global standard for bold, short-form branding, Ketnet’s idents were a local touchstone: imaginative, energetic, and deeply memorable for a whole generation here in Belgium. Both showed us how motion can do more than decorate. It can build identity, create emotion, and leave a lasting impression.

That spirit guided our work for VRT 1. Each ident was crafted to feel distinctive yet familiar, reinforcing the channel’s presence through atmosphere and detail.
