HET STEEN - EXPERIENCE

Het Steen: A Multisensory Journey Through Antwerp’s History.
We transformed Antwerp’s oldest castle into an immersive storytelling hub, blending 3D world-building, interactive gaming, and cinematic documentary to bring the city’s past and present to life.

Reimagining a Landmark

Working within the historic walls of Het Steen, we redid a series of rooms to create a seamless flow of information and emotion. Our goal was to make history tangible, moving beyond static displays to create a living experience.

The City from Above: Interactive 3D Worlds

At the heart of the project, we built sprawling 3D environments that allow visitors to see Antwerp evolve throughout history. This is showcased via a massive interactive game spread across six synchronised screens on a central table.

In another room, visitors can "fly" through an edited Google Maps-style interface, exploring different neighbourhoods and landmarks with fluid, cinematic motion.

Blending Community & Cinema

To ground the digital world in reality, we produced and filmed high-end video content across the city. We blended these atmospheric cityscapes with intimate video interviews of local residents. By highlighting the voices of people from every neighbourhood, we ensured that the museum doesn’t just tell the story of "Antwerp," but the story of its people.

Digital Craftsmanship & Physical Detail

Our 3D expertise wasn't limited to the screen. We utilised 3D printing to create physical models and intricate updates hidden within custom cabinets, rewarding curious visitors with unexpected details. In the tapestry room, we recreated the environment inside a totem to help guests slow down and absorb the incredible detail of the artwork, using lighting to highlight the narrative.

The Six Trades of Antwerp

In the final room, we conducted deep historical research and then animated a series of mini-documentaries focusing on the trades that built the city: Tattooing, Theatre, Diamonds, Printing, Beer, and Bakeries. Through these interviews and visual highlights, we showcased the enduring legacy of craftsmanship that continues to define Antwerp today.
